Our March concerts will feature talented youth performers as part of our free More with Midcoast outreach series

Pianist Michael Bostock will perform during intermission at the Franco on Saturday, March 23. He is a senior at Waynflete School in Portland, Maine, and a student of classical piano under Naydene Bowder at the Portland Conservatory of Music. In February 2024, Michael won 1st Place in Bangor Symphony Orchestra's 43rd Annual Maine High School Concerto Competition, and will be the featured soloist with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra in the Young People's Concerts May 13, playing Dmitri Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in F major, Op. 102: 1. Allegro. Michael was also a 1st Place winner of the 2023 Pine Tree Music Competition. Michael will play 5 pieces in varying styles at the Franco's Heritage Hall on March 23rd, during the intermission --roughly 8 p.m.-- of MSO's A New Artistic Mélange program.

The Maine Youth Orchestra (MYO) will offer the pre-concert program from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at Topsham's Orion Performing Arts center on Sunday, March 24th. MYO is one of the oldest continuous youth orchestras in the state and is the only organization which offers each senior student a chance at playing a concerto. Conducted by Ben David Richmond, MYO includes in its repertoire many genres of music from Pop/Rock to Classical. Selections for this occasion will include Habanera from Carmen by Georges Bizet, Brandenburg Sinfonia by J. S. Bach, Legend by P.I. Tchaikowsky and two American Folk Tunes. Admission to the pre-concert program is free, although tickets are required for the MSO concert which follows at 2:30 p.m.
