Volunteer

Key image for: Volunteer

The Midcoast Symphony Orchestra relies on volunteers to help with many aspects of running our non-profit organization. If you are interested in helping us out, here are some areas of particular need. Please call the orchestra office at (207) 315-1712 or email info@midcoastsymphony.org to get involved with the MSO. Thank you for helping to keep your community orchestra thriving!

Ushering

It takes many people to check tickets and seat all of our patrons in a short amount of time. Ushers perform many other essential tasks during the hour before the concert begins, including setting up the lobby, placing any inserts in the program, and handing out programs.  In exchange for their help, ushers receive free concert tickets. We are always looking for more people, so please contact us if interested!

Special Events

Like most non-profit organizations, the MSO supplements our revenue from ticket sales and donations with one or more special events each season. Fundraising events are a great way to celebrate our wonderful community orchestra while raising important funds for our operations--but they require many people to organize successfully. Ways you can assist us include soliciting donated items, coordinating food and drink, securing a venue, and arranging entertainment for the evening, among others. Volunteering for a special event is also a great way to get to know the orchestra musicians and learn more about what goes on behind the scenes at the MSO.

Marketing

We are always looking for new ideas of how to spread the word in our community about the great work done by the MSO. The Marketing Committee assists staff in developing publicity ideas, including working with social media, and generating leads in the community for articles and other types of coverage.

Board of Directors

The MSO Board is a dedicated group of orchestra lovers who meet five times a year to help guide the organization’s long-term vision and plans. Members of the board supervise the Music Director and Executive Director, draft and approve the budget, create policies and procedures to help the organization meet state and federal guidelines, and act as emissaries for the MSO in their communities. We are especially looking for individuals with legal and/or financial experience, though anyone who is a committed lover of the MSO is invited to contact Executive Director Michael Levine at mlevine@midcoastsymphony.org to learn more.
