Zen Kuriyama

Concert IV, 2025-2026 Season

Dr. Zen Kuriyama is Assistant Professor of Music and Director of the College Choir at Bates College. In addition to his appointment in music, Dr. Kuriyama is a faculty member in European Studies. Zen holds a Ph.D. and Master of Fine Arts degrees in musicology from Brandeis University, an Master of Sacred Music in Choral Conducting from the University of Notre Dame, a Master of Music degree in voice performance from Stony Brook University, and a Bachelor of Arts in music from the University of Hawaii at Mānoa. Zen's scholarship has appeared in peer-reviewed volumes and academic journals and he is a frequent guest lecturer and conductor.
