The Midcoast Symphony Orchestra Opens 22nd Season with Grieg, Mussorgsky
Posted: September 20, 2011
The Midcoast Symphony Orchestra commences its 2011-2012 Topsham season on Sunday, October 23 at 2:30pm in the Orion Performing Arts Center at Mount Ararat Middle School. Music Director Rohan Smith leads the orchestra for this performance. Tickets are $17, and are available at the door, or in advance by phone at 207-846-5378, online at www.midcoastsyphony.org, or at the Gulf of Maine Bookstore in Brunswick or Now You’re Cooking in Bath. Tickets for the October 22 Gala at the Franco American Heritage Center in Lewiston are available by calling 207-689-2000
The program of well-known pieces promises to provoke passion, laughter, and even melancholy with Rossini’s overture to The Thieving Magpie (La gazza ladra), Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A Minor, and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition (orchestrated by Ravel.)
Pianist Igor Lovchinsky joins the Midcoast Symphony Orchestra for the first time with this concert. He has performed across America and Europe, and his debut CD, released in 2008, was voted one of the top five classical recordings of that year by Time Out International.
Season tickets for the Midcoast Symphony Orchestra’s four performances in Topsham this season (October 23, January 15, March 11, and May 13) are available by phone at 207-846-5378, online at www.midcoastsyphony.org, or at the concert box office for $56. All season ticket packages include a single companion ticket valid for any one concert, so that a patron may introduce a friend to the orchestra. The companion ticket program has proven very successful in the two seasons that it has been offered, and the orchestra is pleased to be able offer patrons a way to share the joy of live classical music, made in Maine with friends.
