Maestro Rohan Smith

The 2007 / 2008 season will be Rohan Smith's fifth as Conductor and Music Director of the Midcoast Symphony. Mr. Smith is also on the faculty of Phillips Exeter Academy where he is Director of the Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra, and the Forrestal-Bowld Music Center.

As an orchestral violinist based in New York from 1986 until 1994, Mr. Smith performed regularly with the American Symphony Orchestra, the New Jersey Symphony, and the New Orchestra of Westchester. He was also a member of the Austro-Hungarian Haydn Orchestra under Adam Fischer for five years and performed with them frequently at Haydn’s summer residence near Eisenstadt, and in festivals throughout Europe, Japan, and Taiwan. Mr. Smith has also performed as a violinist at the Aspen Festival, the Buffalo Contemporary Music Festival, and has been a regular participant in Monadnock Music in New Hampshire.

Maestro Smith is the founder and Artistic Director of the Kowmung Music Festival in Australia which is dedicated to bringing together outstanding international musicians to play chamber music in unusual venues in New South Wales.
